Spiralen in hout

Omschrijving:

Dit kunstwerk bestaat uit twee abachihouten spiralen die spits naar boven toelopen. Rob Maingay maakte houten spiralen in de periode 1984-1987. In totaal heeft hij er 17 gemaakt. Beide objecten hebben een brede, steeds smaller wordende abachihouten schil, die prima past in de groenvoorziening.

De spiralen zijn glad afgewerkt en goed in de lak gezet waardoor er in de zon een mooie weerkaatsing van licht ontstaat. In de winter neemt het kunstwerk een dominante plaats in tussen de kale bomen eromheen. ´s Zomers springen de spiralen minder in het oog door de omringende bomen. Het kunstobject op deze mooie, rustige plek lijkt op een monumentale lans.

Spirals in Wood (1988)

Two spirals of abachi wood ending in a point at the top make up this work of art. In the period between 1984 and 1987 Rob Maingay made many wooden spirals, 17 in all. These two objects have a broad-based abachi-wood shell that narrows towards the top, a form that fits perfectly in the park.
The spirals are smoothly finished and well varnished, which creates a beautiful reflection of light when the sun is shining. In wintertime the artwork takes a dominant stand in between the surrounding bare trees. In summertime the spirals are less conspicuous among the trees around them. In this beautiful, quiet place the work of art resembles a monumental lance.
